Past and Present

Heliopolis closed in January 2016, after hosting costs for the then 18 year old archive rose beyond my means to maintain them. This site, while a labor of love, was a huge time and monetary commitment. I have maintained the domain ever since, though, because I loved what it represented, what this site was to me, too much to let it go.

I still get regular inquiries about the site and its stories. I am considering throwing up a read-only version of the archive based on whatever backups that I have. It probably won’t be everything, but it will make a few people happy, including me.

  1. OMG hi! What a wonderful and thoughtful thing you’re doing. You might have already seen this, but the Organization for Transformative Works has an initiative called Open Doors, which is “dedicated to offering shelter to at-risk fannish content. We have several subprojects and rescue efforts aimed at archiving and preserving different kinds of fanworks and artifacts of fan culture.” https://www.transformativeworks.org/opendoors/

They’ve helped many other fandom-specific archives preserve the archives or works, and I bet they’d help preserve Heliopolis and its sister sites as well. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Thank you for all that you have done. I canโ€™t begin to imagine how difficult the decision was to close the site. Please know that I am grateful for all the joy and fun that I had exploring your archive. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

  3. Heliopolis back to life again?! This is too good to be true. There are many fans still out there. AO3 still has new stories posted from time to time. “Heliopolis” will make a lot more then ” a few” people very very happy! Thank you for the good news. Can’t wait…

  4. How exciting! Thank you for all you’re doing. Do you know when the stories will be available again?

  5. I feel like someone who came too late to the party! I only recently discovered all this wonderful fan fiction and there seems to be so many recommended fics that only seem to be found (or were found) on this website. I’ve spent a good long time trying to find an active link to a story by Tribal Matriarch but they are all defunct now.

I would truly love if you would put up a read only version of the site as it just seems so sad that all this wonderful work would just cease to exist.

  6. YES!!! Please do put up a read only version!!! Iโ€™d love to re-live the good old days of Heliopolis!

  7. That would be fantastic! I spent many an hour reading here back when I was on bedrest for several months, and I always feel nostalgic about the site because of that. ๐Ÿ™‚
