Daniel asked me earlier why I like to take last watch, I just shrugged at him and said it was so he could get more sleep, which isn't exactly a lie it's just...half truth. It's actually so I can see the sun rising, I love watching it, no matter what planet we're on or how long we'll stay there for each time I know that one thing will always happen, the sun will always rise. I don't care how many suns there are or what colour they are I just find it really.............. therapeutic............I guess. It's always the same, a constant. The sky gets lighter and the darkness surrounding us starts to lift bringing out the wildlife, then the sun starts to appear over the horizon and a new day starts, a chance to start all over again, correct some of the mistakes we made the day before, or just continue doing the same thing over again, going through the same old routine knowing that it
won't be the same as before because nothing ever is. There are a lot of things that always happen, that are a constant, take for a example the life circle, you know you'll die, it's inevitable, it happens to everyone, it doesn't matter where you come from, what planet or country you always know that you're gonna die, it's the same over and over again but it's always different, and sleep, sleeps a constant as well, you'll always sleep even if you don't wake up you will always sleep, there isn't one person in the whole world that doesn't need to sleep.
I have to say though that the sun rising is the most wonderful constant ever, it's just so beautiful, it sort of reminds me of the little home comforts we have to leave behind every time we come on a mission, it reminds me of all the things in life we take for granted, things that if we keep taking for granted aren't gonna be there for much longer, unlike it's own reality, you see a sunrise will always be there, one day there won't be an earth anymore, that much I know, but there will always be a sunrise on another planet, a new day will start for another world, 100,000 light years from Earth a different civilisation will celebrate the dawn of a new day.
So that's why I like to take last watch, to witness this endless wonder knowing that even when there's nothing, there will always be something, and that alone can make one man forget all his troubles and prepare himself for the day ahead.
