Call it fate that brought them here,
Destined to meet, this time, this place, this year.
In a briefing room deep underground,
A girl, a boy, each other they had found.

He had sat in the room expecting a male,
And when she appeared he turned a little pale.
When she walked in the room his heart caught in his chest,
She was tall, beautiful and her smile was the best.

She was feisty and confident from what he could see,
She was a scientist, a doctor, and military.
He let out a breath and muttered an 'oh fer cryin' out loud'
How would he stay calm with her always around?

As she approached the table she saw him salute,
He was tall and handsome, and oh so cute.
That she could fall for him so fast was no surprise,
How could she not when confronted with those dark brown eyes?

Their first year was exciting, a real dream come true,
Stepping through the Stargate was all so new.
Quickly he adjusted to having her by his side,
His second, his friend, someone in whom he could confide.

Outside their relationship was professional with a great deal of trust,
But inside something was stirring, the beginnings of a forbidden lust.
They put it behind them, and buried it deep inside,
Vowing to ignore it, the rules they must abide.

They explored the universe and made new friends,
And despite their attraction, the rules they would not bend.
They got stuck on a planet, one so very cold,
On the brink of death yet their feelings were still untold.

For he was her commander, her CO, her boss,
She could not tell him of her feelings, for her career would be lost.
They went on with their work, the job they must do,
Still working together, but alone they were blue.

They survived their Antarctic ordeal, only to find out they were engaged,
In an alternate reality, one where the Goa'uld raged.
They saved the Earth for the very first time,
While in private for each other they would still secretly pine.

The second year their friendship continued to grow,
Their love for one another they hid, never to show.
Until one day something happened that changed it all,
Sam was blended with a Tok'Ra, its memories she could recall.

It changed her so greatly, she was confused by the feelings she now carried,
For a man named Martouf, it felt like they were married.
Her feelings were so mixed up she didn't know what to do,
But she knew she still loved Jack, and wished he loved her too.

Little did she know that Jack felt exactly the same,
When she nearly died, upon himself he placed the blame.
He would never let anything hurt her, not ever again,
One day they would be together he did not know when.

They were captured by the goddess Hathor. Jack, she would make host,
The symbiote went inside him and Sam knew he was toast.
But a valiant Tok'Ra saved him from the blending,
Risking her life for a happy ending.

Jack escaped his chamber and found Sam was in trouble,
He came along and burst Hathor's bubble.
Throwing her to her death, she was frozen and encased,
In ice while Jack ran to Sam, the two of them embraced.

It was a special moment when they held each other tight,
Love burning within them, a fire so bright.
Yet no confessions came from the mouths of the two,
No, 'I want you', 'I care', or any 'I love you'.

And so they marched on into year number three,
Still battling with their feelings, feelings that should not be.
Sam got promoted, Jack loved calling her 'Major',
But these new circumstances brought with them more danger.

Sam's twin sister came through from some other Earth, some other place,
Waving her marriage to Jack in everyone's face.
And when Jack kissed her twin, Sam felt her heart break,
She had to get over him for her very own sake.

But then something happened that made all her feelings come flooding back,
Edora got hit by a meteor shower, trapping her beloved Jack.
She worked forever to get him back home,
But while he was gone, his eye, it did roam.

Sam's heart was crushed, hurt and totally shattered,
He'd given up on her so quickly, like nothing they shared had mattered.
She cursed herself for being such a fool, for loving him so very much,
But at night she would still lay awake, yearning for his touch.

She couldn't stay mad at him for long when they were given a break,
Jack strolled into her lab and invited her to his cabin by the lake.
She wanted to say yes with all of her heart,
But didn't know what would happen or what they might start.

If they were alone she might lose all control,
Making love to him, giving him her soul.
So reluctantly she declined his tempting invitation,
Only to have them beamed up by Thor, to once again save the nation.

They fought so hard to kill the bugs that did replicate,
Knowing again that their love would have to wait.
Year number four came along, some shocking revelations it did yield,
When Sam was stuck behind an impenetrable Goa'uld force shield.

Jack would not leave her behind to die,
And from that moment on they could no longer lie,
To one another about what they felt,
In each other's eyes their love was clearly spelt.

And then in a room in front of an alien machine,
Everything came out, or so it would seem.
The lies that they told came shining through,
Jack confessing he cared more than he was supposed to.

Sam said the same and it stayed in the room,
No one could know, or it would lead to their doom.
They both knew now of what the other did feel,
It was out in the open, so true, so very real.

Stuck in a time loop, Daniel gave Jack a wild revelation,
Persuading him to give General Hammond a copy of his resignation.
Jack had an opportunity, one that he should not miss,
To take Sam into his arms and show her how sweetly he did kiss.

Harder and harder it became to keep their feelings separate,
From their work and their missions, their longings were so desperate.
Their memories were stamped during some off-world dealings,
Unaware of who they were, but still fighting those old feelings.

Alone on a planet they could not hide what they had felt,
But slowly they remembered, they carried on, they dealt,
With the pain and frustration of being kept apart,
They held each other closely within their heart.

Until one day Sam found herself in quite a lot of strife,
A major accident threatened to take her precious life.
An Entity from far away had invaded her head,
Jack watched her as she lay there, unconscious in her bed.

He had to kill her with his zat'nik'atel,
Sending him spiralling into his own private hell.
The woman he loved was dying before his eyes,
And he had no way of telling her about the love he did disguise.

But Doc Fraiser came through and saved the day,
Bringing her back and putting the Entity at bay.
She was alive and well, she was gonna be alright,
Jack did not leave her, staying by her side long into the night.

Their fifth year was more cautious, progressing very slow,
Each so afraid of the feelings that continued to grow.
Their relationship became more dangerous, they had to take a step back,
There was no time for love, or affection or rolling in the sack.

Sam got herself kidnapped by a very sick and dangerous man,
Who wanted to use her brain for his very evil plan.
But Jack came to her rescue, as he always did,
Wishing he could hold her and show her the love he hid.

Jack had her back from Adrian and from that moment on,
Their friendship became a lot deeper, a bond always strong.
But underneath they battled in silent agony,
Simply unable to be together they way they wanted to be.

They comforted each other when Daniel went away,
They carried on without him, to fight another day.
Now they move along cautiously, doing the job for which they were beckoned,
Knowing that they may lose each other with each passing second.

They know the job they do is more important than their love,
So they put their lives on hold, thanking the heavens above,
That at least they have their friendship, which is better than nothing at all,
Until the day does come when they no longer answer duty's call.

Call it fate that brought them here,
To this place where they cry silent tears.
In a briefing room deep underground,
A place where the truest love was found.

The End.
