POSSESSED, AS USUAL

Oh crap.

One second she'd been taking soil samples, and the next.... Well, to quite honest, whatever was going on, it couldn't be good. Jaffa were involved, and...oh, did she mention that there was a Goa'uld looking down at her? A female one. An old, ill, female one. This was soooo getting old....

"Carter?!"

"Major Carter, we are prepared to leave!"

"Sammmm....."

"OK, guys, I'm here! I just had to finish up with the soil samples - sorry, sir," Carter said, smiling, as she hurried to reach her team. The Colonel grinned in response.

"Cos they're just so darn interesting, right Major?"

"Yes sir!" she answered, giving a mock salute.

"Well, dial the gate. Daniel and I have to carry these....rocks."

"Oh Jaccccck, they're important archeological finds!"

"Yes, sure they are, Danny-boy! Go on then, Carter."

As she passed Teal'c, to reach the DHD, she felt him tense and grip his staff weapon more tightly.

"What's up, Teal'c?" she heard Daniel ask, as if through a haze. Her body turned to face them, without any command from her, as she desperately fought for a purchase in her own mind. Anything to knock control away from the Goa'uld. Instead of succeeding, she felt her mouth open.

"Sensing naquada, Teal'c? Don't worry, I got pretty covered in dust that was rich in it - it reacts with the amount that's still in my bloodstream. I can feel it myself, actually."

The Colonel was staring at her intently, and then he began to look between her and Teal'c.

"Whatya think, buddy?"

"I believe Major Carter is correct, O'Neill. It has often occurred before."

"OK then campers, lets go home!"

No, no, no! Come on guys, see through the veil. See that it's not me. Come on! She screamed inside her head, as her hands nimbly pressed down the symbols for Earth, and entered SG-1's IDC into her GDO. Those memories had already been acquired by the damn snake inside her.

This is just like when Jolinar took over she thought, dejectedly. Then, she felt the evil worm's curiosity peak. Oh, so you didn't know that, did you? Some of my memories are hidden, then. How have I done that?

The rest of her team walked into the event horizon, and she followed suit - desperately trying to regain some semblance of control, knowing that if she did not, her right hand - which had been casually shoved into her pocket since she had returned to greet her team - would emerge, with the hand device on it - and she would watch whilst she used it to kill everyone within the gate room, and then the SGC, and then....

She shuddered. And then she realized. She had actually shuddered. A physical action - her body had shivered. She was still in with a shot! Unbidden, memories of Netu came into her mind. But not just hers - Jolinar's as well. During the exhilarating trip back to Earth's stargate, she grasped at Jolinar's recollections of the dreadful torture she had endured, as she felt the Goa'uld retreat slightly within her mind.

She could master this!

Her team had turned to look at her as she came out of the gate onto the ramp.

"SG-1, you will debrief in..." Hammond began.

Feel the pain, the anger, the humiliation - push the snake out, get it away...

"GET IT OUT!" she screamed, wrenching her hand out of her pocket and beginning to pry the hand device from herself. "Goa'uld....I've got a....snake...help....me...." her voice faded as she threw the offending device away from her, and felt the symbiote regain control.

Her team had all raised their weapons, along with all of the airmen in the room. Manaya could see that the pathetic Tauri host she had chosen had successfully managed to put her in a difficult position. But no position is inescapable.

"Tauri, kree! I will cause your friend great pain if you do not release me! I will kill her!"

Most of the people in the room flinched. The words were distorted, and quite obviously Goa'uld-induced.

"You wouldn't," O'Neill stated. "You'd be committing suicide!" His terrified expression belied his calm words.

Everyone in the gate room watched as Sam's face convulsed as the Major fought for control once more.

"Dammit, zat me! Anything! Get the Tok'ra.... Kill me...come on, Colonel, you've done it before..." she gasped, grabbing hold of the railing to stop herself from falling.

The entity. He had killed her. They had taken a long time to return to normal after that - he couldn't forgive himself. She had tried to tell him that she wasn't there when he had done it, she had already been transported to the memory mainframe.... Yes! her thought processes were working overtime, and she hoped that at the speed she was thinking, the snake wouldn't realize what was going on.

Colonel O'Neill felt emotions, that he usually kept steadfastly in check, bubble to the surface. Love was an understatement, he had decided long ago, but, surpassing all of these at that moment in time, was anger. Pure and total. He hated the Goa'uld, inside Carter, more than anything else he had ever known. More than Jolinar, and more than the entity.

Pain, fear, anger, hurt, terror, agony.... yes, Sam, keep feeling those emotions...just a little longer...

She looked up into the control room, and saw Sergeant Siler there. Then she glanced to her right, her muscles straining against the invisible resistance the Goa'uld was creating, to see the MALP that they had sent back, still sitting where it had been left during the commotion.

"Siler...isolate all of the....TAURI! YOU WILL OBEY ME!...computer systems....I AM YOUR GODDESS! MOTHER OF ALL....no new information must be allowed....GOA'ULDS! I WILL CRUSH...to be input into any of the....YOU! DO YOU NOT SEE...files. I'm going to try something....THAT YOU ARE NOTHING COMPARED TO ME?!

Siler stared down at the blonde Major, a woman, soldier and scientist whom he respected above all others in the SGC, and felt his stomach crease in disgust and fear. Her voice fluctuated as she spoke, as she and the Goa'uld fought for her body. As the final shout of the Goa'uld died away, he acted on Carter's command - General Hammond be damned. She was trying to save herself!

Come on, Sam. You can do this. Just get to the MALP. Now!

"Who are you?" Daniel was asking the Goa'uld. Must ignore him...shut up Daniel!

Teal'c, Daniel and O'Neill watched, along with many other members of the SGC, as Carter stumbled down the ramp, both she and the Goa'uld gasping and screaming obscenities with every footstep.

Jolinar, help me...please help me...

The MALP's relay circuits were easy to access, and she ripped away their covering easily. Then she hauled two wires out of the connection that they made with the computer inside the machine, and grasped them - hard.

There was a loud, sharp gasp. O'Neill only realized a second later that it had come from him, as he watched his 2IC's body arch as if struck by lightening, and then crumple to the floor.

Hammond wasted no time. "Medical team and security team Alpha to the gate room - stat!!"

Sam's eyelids flickered as she listened to the discussion at the end of her bed.

"General, there doesn't appear to be any evidence of a Goa'uld within her mind, but a dead husk is already being absorbed by her body," Dr Fraiser was saying.

"Eww, another protein thingy? Yuck!" That had to be the Colonel, Carter thought.

"So, where is it, Doctor?" the General asked, matter of factly.

"Well, sir, I'm just speculating, but I believe that its consciousness was transferred to the MALP, in the same way that Major Carter's was moved to the mainframe, a few months ago," was the vague answer.

"Woah! Do you really think that Sam has that power?" queried a very surprised Daniel. A confused sort of clucking sound from the doctor signaled to Sam that she should probably speak up.

"Yes, Daniel, I do - did - whatever."

"Sam!" exclaimed the two doctors.

"Carter!"

"Major Carter, you're awake." There was a pause as everyone turned to look at the Jaffa and the General.

"Uh, Sir, do you think a little time away from Teal'c might be beneficial..."

"Thank you, Colonel!" Hammond responded, in his sternest tone.

"So, the Goa'uld is really in the MALP? What shall we do with it?" asked Daniel, after he had stopped shaking with laughter.

"I believe that turning it off and erasing the memory would succeed in that task, Daniel Jackson," replied Teal'c.

"Yes, Teal'c...that would work. I'm sorry for causing such a problem, sir," Carter said, first to Teal'c, and then turning to the General.

Colonel O'Neill answered before Hammond could respond.

"No problem, Carter, just don't do it again, ok?"

She closed her eyes, a small smile on her face.

"No, sir." As she drifted off to blissful sleep, her smile widened. She could translate what he had said, and he could translate her reaction.
