Major Sam Carter stared at him with a knitted brow, he was mumbling something in Egyptian then in another language. He was pacing back and forth. Sam had to suppress a giggle. He looked so cute, he was running his hand through his hair, and along his jawbone, he was growing stubble, not like he wanted to, it was just that he had to because he had been up for two days with something SG-12 had brought back through the stargate. SG-1 had to postpone a mission, well more along the lines like Daniel walked into the gate room gnome like and ten minutes later Teal'c walked back through the stargate with Daniel in his arms. Who was fast asleep. That's when General George Hammond ordered SG-1 to take a well earned rest. Jack and Teal'c had gone fishing while Daniel and Sam stayed on base to work on little projects. But they found themselves back and forth between the labs so the opted to move into a large lab temporary. Sam was sitting back drinking her coffee watching Daniel muttering things to himself, Sam bit her lip, Daniel was going to give himself a heart attack one of these days. She held back the urge to make him jump but she did put her cup down then slid out of her seat and walked over to Daniel, he didn't even noticed not till she plucked the book from his hands and bent down so he could look at her, she smiled when his blue eyes focused on her before she stood and smiled at him "break time" Sam stated as Daniel grinned before he removed his glasses and rubbed his eyes "how long now" Daniel asked before Sam looked at her watch and tilted her head from side to side before she looked at him "ten full minutes" Sam stated as Daniel smiled and placed his glasses back on and placed his hands on her shoulders before he lent in close "I need caffeine" he said in a voice that made Sam laughed, he let go, too soon for Sam's liking and walked around her to his coffee "you know, you have to pace your self Daniel, you could give your self a heart attack, or something" Sam stated as Daniel smiled at his friend over the rim of the coffee cup as he drained the last of his coffee off "I know" he said breathlessly after he put his cup down "if I take a break now what would I do" Daniel asked as Sam turned and lent a hand on the table and tapped the surface with her fingers thoughtfully "I've got the spare key to the colonel's room" Sam stated as Daniel sighed "nah, I don't want to watch you going through his stuff like a lust crazed teenager, Cassy has more self respect than you" Daniel stated with that kid like grin that nobody could stay mad at. Sam giggled, a few months ago Sam had stayed round Daniels while her house was being de bugged and the colonel recovered from an injury. Broken nose of all things. She had told Daniel openly and honestly that she didn't love the colonel, she could never love another army man after Jonas. Of course she had feelings for her CO but she never loved him, she loved to flirt with him, to which Daniel called her a tart. But it was a gently joke. She had fun at Daniel's and hated when she had to go home, because Daniel was opening up to her for the first time and she liked it, it meant the team was getting back on track. "SG-4 is meant to be coming home anytime now, we could go and wait for them" Sam found her self saying as Daniel picked up his book shaking his head, she had found her self trying to spend more and more time with him. She blushed but Daniel didn't seem to notice "got too much work" Daniel stated not looking at her, Sam nodded and pouted, she cursed herself, she had let things between her and Daniel become too, *comfortable* and she had no chance to change that, or at least none that would mean they could still be friends "I'm going in search of Janet" Sam stated as Daniel nodded before he picked up the device SG-12 had brought back "don't work too long Daniel" Sam warned as she walked out, she blushed like mad but she had to do it, she took a long glance of his behind before the wall blocked her view. Janet Frasier smiled as Sam walked in "hey Sam" Janet greeted as Sam walked over to her desk and sat in front of her "I'm bored" Sam stated as Janet grinned and looked at her friend, she noted on many occasions how alike Sam and Cassandra were alike "what no Daniel watching" Janet asked, Sam knew that jack had warned both Sam and Janet to watch Daniel at all times, but Sam still blushed and look away "Daniel looking at something" Sam stated before she looked at her friend, she didn't seem to catch the red blush vanishing from Sam's face "oh, someone had better watch him, you know how jack gets when something happens to Daniel" Janet stated as Sam sighed before she stood, jack went into fits after Daniel got hurt, oh he never throw one around Daniel but when he was out of earshot he would throw fits that would make a two year old ashamed "he'll be fine" Sam didn't get all the words out when the in coming traveller alarms started, she sighed and knew SG-4 was coming home "better get ready, SG-4 seem to take other you guys, always getting themselves into trouble" Janet stated before there was a loud electoral sound then all the lights went out. Sam cursed as she walked down the hall, she was nearly bumping into people as she walked around the base, and they hadn't been able to bring the lights back on, she had a flashlight, she reached the lab she had left Daniel in and saw only darkness "Daniel" Sam called before there was a sharp baby cry, she jumped and gasped, she played her flashlight over everything then at the ground, on the floor swimming in clothes was a baby, Sam noticed the big blue eyes and a few strands of golden brown hair, the baby was crying, Sam noticed the deceive next to him as she grabbed the baby and wrapped in him in the jacket he was laying in, he stopped crying but Sam only got confused when she saw the name JACKSON written on it.
Janet bit her lip, partly she didn't want to bust out laughing and partly because she had to tell her best friend that the baby she was holding was none other then Daniel Jackson, they brought the lights and everything else back on line, which made it none the easy to tell Sam the news "Sam" Janet started as she walked into the infirmary and smiled at the sight of Sam rocking Daniel, he was sucking his thumb and sleeping, Janet had fail to notice that the rest of her medical team hadn't gone unaffected by Daniel's charms, even if he was new born "sssshhhh, I just got him off to sleep, he's sooo cute" Sam stated not looking up from Daniel, Janet smiled at how Sam drawled in the sooo part "Sam him, would be, Daniel" Janet stated as Sam looked up at her, gob smacked "what" she asked glancing at the baby she was holding "that's Daniel, the blood I took proves it, it's Daniel Jackson, no more than three days old" Janet stated as Sam stared at Daniel stroking his cheek "oh great how the hell am I meant to tell the colonel this" Sam asked as Janet bit her lower lip but then giggled "I'll get some milk and diapers" Janet stated before she turned and rushed from the room before the major got give her an evil look.
Colonel Jack O'Neill had those days when he loved coming in to work, he really did love those days, then there was days when he just wished he drew the curtains, cut all the phone lines, locked the doors and pulled the covers over his head and today was on of them, he got a call from a very chipper Janet, who he could tell was suppressing giggles, then the general took over and told jack to get to the base quick there had been an accident, jack knew what they meant, DANIEL had had an accident, and jack was going to kill him. Jack stopped down the hall from the infirmary when he heard cooing and giggling, baby giggling, he didn't know of anyone who had a baby, jack strolled down the hallway and saw something that made him laugh and almost pee himself, on a bed was a baby, staring at general Hammond, Teal'c, Janet and Sam standing around him waving and cooing, jack could now see that the baby was once happy but now he thought the people were boring now, jack stopped laughing when everyone looked at him "sorry" he said before he wiped the tears away "just the waving" he said more to general Hammond and Teal'c than to anyone else "colonel, welcome back" general Hammond stated wiping things from his suit, Sam was now letting the baby hold her hand "some one like to tell me what's going on" jack asked before everyone looked at Sam who just stared "me" she asked as everyone nodded then rushed from the room, but not too far, they wanted to make a fuss over the baby, jack strolled over to the bed and lent over the bar and played about with the baby who giggled and blew bubbles for jack "hey kid" he stated before he glanced at Sam "so" he asked as Sam bit her lower lip and took a deep breath "sir, there was an accident, the stargate open and then a lighting bolt shot through and Daniel well Daniel is, well you can see how Daniel is" Sam stated before jack stood up, but not too fast the baby was holding his hand "I don't see Daniel any-" jack stopped and looked at the blue eyed baby in front of him "that's Danny" jack asked as Sam nodded "Danny is a baby" jack asked before he looked at Sam "we're trying to reverse the effects" Sam stated before jack looked at Daniel who was smiling at him before he closed his eyes still clasping jack's hand.
Sam walked into the infirmary with a coffee for her self and jack, she stopped and smile, jack was laying on the bed with Daniel, who when Sam left was a new born, but now he was clearly a two year old who was crawling around "Sammy" he cried, he had learnt her name "Janet" Sam called before Janet jerked awake and rushed into the room she gasped when she looked at Daniel, jack woke up and looked around then at Daniel who grinned at him "daddy" Daniel stated before jack stared "what happen" jack asked as Daniel laughed.
Jack tried his best not to worry while captain Lawson of SG-12 told them everything he found on their last mission, jack was nodding, but him, Teal'c and Sam were watching the door, Janet had promise, hell she nearly broke all their arms to call them if anything else happen to Daniel. "Doctor Jackson was translating something from the planet, but other then that, we found nothing out of place" captain Lawson stated as general Hammond nodded "major carter, you know Daniel's books better then anyone, could you finish translating the texts" general Hammond ordered as Sam bit her lip "you can do it in the infirmary" general Hammond stated as Sam let out a sigh of relief before she nodded "gratefully" she stated before general Hammond looked at jack "it would be silly to assign you two to anything that isn't in the infirmary, well SG-1 is still on leave, you can finish your leave. But colonel you know as well as I do that your going to need your sleep" general Hammond stated as jack and Teal'c nodded "I also have had such unsettling experiences with children" Teal'c stated as general Hammond grinned "go about your jobs SG-1" he ordered as SG-1 nodded "captain Lawson, you depart for P3XY789 at 1600 hours, rest up" general Hammond ordered before major Lawson nodded "dismissed" he ordered before everyone rushed from the room, well not Lawson and general Hammond who watched with small smiles as SG-1 rushed to the youngest member of SG-1.
Sam smiled as she looked up from Daniel's book, jack and Teal'c were talking to a now 4 year old Daniel Jackson, or as everyone has started to call him Daniel O'Neill/carter/Teal'c, because they were all acting very much like his parents "nicktar" jack told Daniel who stared at him "nicktar" Daniel repeated, he was very bright for such a young, and Sam couldn't help but notice very cute, Sam just wanted to cuddle him and kiss him, he was so adorable "O'Neill do you think it wise to teach a child the word nicktar" Teal'c asked as jack looked at him "Daniel knows this stuff, he can say more swears words than I can" jack stated before Teal'c looked back at Daniel with a raised eye brow but then smiled "cooey" Teal'c stated before jack raised both eyes at him but it didn't last, everyone who looked at Daniel couldn't help but go gooey "I did it" Sam shouted before everyone looked at her, she went red before she walked over to them "the first part means retrace" she stated as jack looked at her "it took you three hours to learn that" jack asked as Sam went red again "nicktar" Daniel called as jack smiled at him "very good, now can you say 'you are a'" jack asked as Daniel frowned at him "you are a" Daniel repeated "you are a nicktar, Maybourne" jack told Daniel before Sam and Teal'c shot him looks "what, it's good to get your parotids in place" jack stated.
Jack yawned as he walked into the infirmary, Sam was spread across a bed with Daniels books around her, and Teal'c was asleep against the wall. Jack smirked before he looked at the bed, Daniel was no longer on it "Danny" jack called, he heard both Sam and Teal'c wake up, but he didn't care, jack spun round as Sam asked what was wrong and he was out the door when Sam and Teal'c spotted that Daniel was gone. Jack was sick with worry now, he knew how much trouble Daniel got into when he was older, but the thought of Daniel as a four year old turned his stomach, jack was about to run into the wall but stopped when he saw a weapon cupboard door open, he rushed to it and saw a six year old Daniel playing with a side arm, he looked at jack and grinned. Jack's heart acutely froze. Pictures of his own son when he found him with jack's own gun, his blood every where, and jack's gun in his tiny limp hands "Daniel" jack screamed before he grabbed the gun and threw it away and grabbed Daniel into a bare hug, Daniel hugged jack back not knowing what to do "don't ever do that again" jack ordered, tears running down his face "sorry daddy" Daniel said in that voice he had, which made jack smile and cry even more, Sam and Teal'c found them and sighed "that's ok.. son" jack stated. Jack smiled, that had just felt so right, he never felt right calling any boy son, but he felt Daniel had earned that right, because to jack at that moment he could have been jack's son "we're good" jack told Sam and Teal'c as he stood with Daniel and carried him back to the infirmary.
Jack smiled as his son and Sam played chase, Teal'c was just standing next to the park bench "Teal'c sit down" jack ordered before Teal'c shook his head "I wish to remain standing O'Neill encase Daniel has a fall" Teal'c stated, sounding more father like than ever, jack smiled to himself, Daniel, who was now 12 years old, had chosen jack to be his father "dad" Daniel shouted as he waved to his father who waved back, jack knew he never actual planted a seed into a woman and she had never given birth to Daniel, meaning a instant bond, but everything that SG-1 had been through had made them a family, jack being the father of course. Jack smiled at Sam who was talking with Daniel while having her arms wrapped around him, jack knew he loved Sam but not in the way he had lover other women, Sam was his daughter, very bright daughter and that's how he could love her, no other way, even if tried. "don't get to close to the darn water" jack ordered before Sam and Daniel gave him a sloppy salute before they giggled, jack heard Teal'c stifle a laugh and jack shot him a look "go scar some kids" jack ordered as Teal'c raised a eyebrow before there was a loud splash and both jack and Teal'c looked up to see Sam leaning over the side and no Daniel "damnit" jack cursed as he jumped up and rushed over to Sam, Teal'c close to him. Jack stopped and looked for Daniel but he wasn't in the water, he couldn't see him "he grabbed his head then fell in, I didn't have time to get him" Sam spluttered, tears brimming her eyes. She looked for Daniel, jack yanked his coat off and dove into the lake and searched for Daniel, who he located easily. Sam's heart missed beats when jack surfaced, for a moment she thought he didn't have Daniel, then she saw his limp form, jack was clinging to him tightly "help me" he barked before Teal'c reached down and grabbed Daniel, and pulled him to dry land, Teal'c had shrugged his coat off and now was wrapping it around Daniel "we must return to the base O'Neil" Teal'c stated not waiting for jack's response already grabbing Daniel and heading to the car, jack held back the bile that was creeping up his throat when he saw Daniels blue face slump against Teal'c's chest, he wished very hard that Daniel would be ok.
Janet stroked a now 16 year old Daniel O'Neill/Carter/Teal'c/Jackson feverish head and sighed, he was deathly pale and he was already mumbling in his sleep "he has phenomena, we have to wait" Janet stated not looking up from Daniel "I knew I should of never let him go near that darn water" jack stated as he rubbed the knots in the back of his neck out "it was my fault" Sam stated as jack shook his head "no it wasn't" jack told her as she nodded but still bit her lip "indeed Major Carter, it was no ones fault" Teal'c told her before Janet sighed "I think everyone needs rest" Janet ordered before everyone looked at her like she had just told them not to give a dam "sorry doc but we're staying right here" jack told her before Janet put her firm face on, it worked wit Cassy it should work with them "well at least sleep, I mean, I don't want all of SG-1 under my care, Daniel I can take care of, you three, I might just have to kill you" Janet joked which seemed to loosen them as they hesitantly walked to over to beds and climbed on and laid down, facing Daniel, Janet rolled her eyes before she walked into her office.
Jack was awoken by someone shout very sharply and then a long beep, he slowly sat up and rubbed his eyes, sleep lifting and horror settling in, because what he saw was a twenty year old Daniel laying hooked up to vents but the heart monitor next to him showing no life sign, he heard Sam and Teal'c stirring next to him "charge again, 650 now" Janet barked before there was a beep sound then a dull thudding, jack watched as his son's body jerked up and then came back down, he was too pale, jack was up and off the bed by same time Sam and Teal'c was "stand clear" Janet ordered as she pressed the panels against Daniel's chest and hit the buttons, there was a thudding noise again and Daniel's body jerked up and then fell back but this time there was a beeping noise meaning there was a life sign "heart beat returning to normal" one of the nurses stated as Janet sighed and put the panels back and then checked Daniel "Janet" Sam whispered before Janet looked at them "his fine now, his heart stop, but his fine now" Janet assured them "not his bloody well isn't, my son died, your telling me for a second my son had died" jack snapped before Janet looked at the rest of the team, but none gave her support "no, for about two minutes, he was dead" Janet told them, jack regretted snapping at her, because he knew she cared just as much as they did about Daniel "now, he has to be left alone, he will get better" Janet snapped before she turned and walked out, jack, Sam and Teal'c watched her leave before they looked back at Daniel who looked too weak to have the will to live "I think we should go get some coffee" jack stated but didn't move, neither did Sam or Teal'c "I shall return with caffeine" Teal'c stated before he left the infirmary jack and Sam tried to get closer but held Janet's words very close to mind. Jack was awoken again by very hard shoving, he slapped the hand away before he looked up and sighed "what the hell do you think your playing at" jack snapped before he saw a very happy Sam "he's awake" Sam stated before jack jumped up and rushed over to his sons bed, Daniel was now his correct age and was sitting up with a little more colour in his cheeks "I feel better now" Daniel assured everyone "Danny" jack said with a smile on his face, his heart was sinking because he knew that Daniel wouldn't call him father anymore "dad" he said before jack grinned and walked over to his son and hugged him "how you doing son" jack whispered before Daniel nodded "good dad" he stated before jack pulled back and ruffled his sons hair "guess you're a father now" Sam stated before she sat on the bed next to Daniel "things just stick" Daniel stated as he smiled at Sam and held her hand "I wanted to thank you guys" Daniel stated as he looked at them all "what for, caring and looking after you" jack asked as Daniel smiled "no, I translated the texts SG-12 found and it means 'retrace your childhood' which I did" Daniel stated as jack nodded "ok, why you thanking us" jack asked as Daniel looked down then back up "because, you know how I was put into foster care, and how I was moved from one home, to another, abused by a couple of my fathers, that's no way a child should grow up, but I did. But by retracing my childhood you lot have given me something that I only wished for, you gave me another childhood a better one, I got a father, and a family" Daniel stated as everyone smiled "that's your birthday present young man" Jack stated as Daniel smiled "thanks dad" Daniel stated, jack smiled at how much ease Daniel said that word and how much ease jack took the words in "guess I'm going to have to change my last name to add O'Neill, I'm going to be Doctor Daniel Jackson/O'Neill" Daniel stated with a mock expression of horror on his face "and carter" Sam stated as Daniel looked at her and smiled gently "I have no last name to which you may refer to your self" Teal'c stated as Daniel looked at him "don't worry, I never had a middle name, I'll be Daniel Teal'c Jackson/O'Neill/Carter" Daniel stated as everyone nodded "god I would hate to write your name down on forms, under FULL NAME PLEASE" jack stated as everyone laughed "not just SG-1 team anymore, we're a clan" Daniel stated before everyone laughed. Later when Sam and Teal'c had left them to go to the land of nod jack pulled a chair up next to Daniel's bed and smiled "you don't have to call me dad" jack stated as Daniel smiled at him "dad, I watched my parents die, I also had to watch them make work more important than me, then I was forced into families that never wanted me" Daniel stated holding the tears back "nick as best as he tried could never make me feel like a family, then I was shipped off. Dad have you ever felt like something wasn't right, that you should never be there" Daniel asked as jack nodded "I guess, after Charlie died. Life never seemed the same after he died, I would go to family gathers and feel like I didn't belong, Sara never made it easy for me. Then I found you. You need protecting and for the first time in ages I felt like someone needed me and that I had a family, I had a son, and then the family grew and I only got happier" jack stated as Daniel smiled at him "thanks, dad" Daniel stated as jack stood and smiled "sleep time now" jack ordered as Daniel nodded and shifted under the cover "night dad" Daniel stated as jack smiled "night baby boy" he said before he switched the light out and patted Sam's and Teal'c's head as he walked out "oh dad" Daniel called as jack looked back "what" he asked as Daniel smiled "love ya" he said before jack grinned then nodded "you too" he said before he turned and went in search of general Hammond, there was going some name changing and he had to fill the general in on the fact that he was a father and with the way Sam was looking after Daniel a grandfather soon.
