Lingering Equations

An equation lingered upon her mind,
Roaming to and fro within.
It battled and squabbled with what was wrong, And with what was right and sound.

Her heart began to referee with the
Goings on up above.
But failed to stay on course,
As it was partial to what was.

Feet and fingers tapped graciously,
To sounds of soft metal and cement.
Pencils erased away all that could not be, And could never be meant.

Trembling, shivering, shaking,
She released a heavy sigh.
Why should such an equation,
Linger so strongly in her mind?

Her heart knew how to solve
The complexities from within.
But her mind was in a quandary,
As to how to let the equation win.

Each new piece of paper held a possible solution, Only to be tossed out once again.
How to go on, how to proceed,
She had never pondered an equation of such complexity.

A door opened,
Brown eyes twinkle, blue eyes beamed, cautious footsteps followed. And the lingering equation...
Was settled in their dreams.
