Adult Archive in Progress ...

I am closing the submissions for Helio2, as the database for it is now complete, as is Helio: Atlantis. They will remained closed until I finish with the main archive's database. The tentative date for this will be May 1st.

The reasons for the delay include the fact that I am in the process of moving, and currently don't have electricity, let alone internet, at my new house, yet. I am hoping something faster than my current 26.8k connection will be available at the new location. For this reason, I may be out of touch for most of the month.

The other reason, is that I still need volunteers to make this work. The slowest part of this process is validating all of the chapters, once they are in place. It takes time away from other things I could be working on. I validated over 90 chapters today.

Also, whatever system I put into place to answer your concerns about separating the gen and het stories, will not work without moderators. I can not keep up with the submissions to all three archives, and still keep the stories validated as fast as they come in. If this happens, Heliopolis will continue with its open (unmoderated) submissions policy. - Just something to think about -

I also need to reiterate, please, do not sign up for a new account at the new archive, or attempt to log in to an existing account. I have closed all submissions for the new archive, so you will be unable to do anything, anyway, and when I am done with the archive, I will be deleting all accounts that don't have stories associated with them, so your account will be deleted and you will have to do it all over again. Save us all some trouble, and wait until I finish the database.

What's Going On...

I am reopening the submissions for Heliopolis and Helio2, while I continue to work on the archives in the background. Because Helio: Atlantis is essentially done, but linked to the new database which I am still working on, submissions for it are closed until further notice.

Please, do not sign up for a new account at the new archive, or attempt to log in to an existing account. I have closed all submissions for the new archive, so you will be unable to do anything, anyway, and when I am done with the archive, I will be deleting all accounts that don't have stories associated with them, so your account will be deleted and you will have to do it all over again. Save us all some trouble, and wait until I finish the database.

Thanks for your patience - and enjoy the new stories while you wait. I hope to be done by the end of the month (which this week marks 4 years for me as webmistress of this site!).

Keep an eye out here for updates.

Changes are Afoot

Time to reveal what I've been working on for the last few months. Don't be alarmed, but there are going to be a lot of changes around here in the near future. My current computer situation not withstanding, I have managed to impliment the first stage of changes, due to a temporarily borrowed desktop and my very lovely and much appreciated, new, external harddrive, to which I have the website and lot of super secret files. :)

Heliopolis is moving from AutoArchive to eFiction, because it is more customizable, higher functioning and has several great benefits. The old and new versions of the Helio gen archive with once again be combined and completely searchable. The gen archive, adult archive and atlantis archive will remain separate structures, but with a shared log-in system. Each person will have one account that will allow them to access to all of their stories, in any of the archives to add, delete, or edit at your leisure. No more waiting on monthly updates (or longer for the old archive). There is even the ability to link previously published stories together in a series, and to access them in that manner.

Next, provided that I can find a couple of volunteers, Helio will be moving to a moderated submissions archive, at least for the time being, while everyone gets used to the new system. The largest number of complaints that I receive are about inappropriate submissions or because people feel there is to much het in their gen archive. If you think that's a problem, here's where you can help out. I will also be drafting up some clearer submission guidelines to help people place and rate their stories appropriately.

Unfortunately because of the way the database is formatted and the way all of the different tables intersect to make searching and using the archive easier for you, it is a bit of a hassle to set up. Each of the 10,000 or so stories/chapters in the archive has to be inserted by hand. I'd love some volunteers to help out with this task, even a few dozen entries would help, or hey, just want to do your own stories, I'm flexible... I've been asking for a familiarity with eFiction, but I don't guess it's necessary. I've done all of the programming already, and if I can't explain how the script works, we have bigger problems...

As soon as I have a good start on the archive, I will open it up alongside the existing archives. All of the current authors in all of the archives have an admin-created account at this point, but you won't be able to use it until I validate your information and release it to you, so I'll be setting up a contact form for this purpose. You fill out the form, I'll release the account, and you should get an e-mail with all of the relevant information, and you'll be able to edit or add to your stories.

I'm sure editing will be necessary, as I am just entering the minimum info (basically what I can get out of the quicksearch listings) so some information may be missing or incorrect, and some formatting may be lost in the process. I know that sounds horrible, but we only have to do this once, and I am sure the results with be worth it.

Keep an eye out here for updates.

More Computer Issues

You should never, ever make jokes about or speak ill of your computers. To make that lesson abundantly clear, my laptop died this morning. I was running a CHKDSK and it just turned itself off. When I try to turn it on, there is power, it just doesn't do anything. I think the mother-board is fried. I'll try to get the submissions back up as soon as possible - beyond that, I'm not sure. I backed up my e-mail a little while ago, but I'm not sure when. Recent stuff will have been lost.

More Computer Issues

This really hasn't been my month for elecronics. If I didn't laugh about the various issues that I've had around here, I'd seriously cry. [The most recent diaster involved vomit (not mine) and a keyboard - you really don't want to know.] To that affect, Helio submissions are still down, but are expected to resume sometime on Saturday. I'll head into town, to the college to make use of their internet connection to upload all of the changes and corrections. Hopefully, my laptop will cooperate on that issue.

For those that are curious, I use a five year old laptop computer that's missing the 1 key and doesn't have hi-speed USB ports (and can't use cards to fix that, because the slot doesn't work), a scavenged keyboard, a wireless USB mouse, my lovely new external hard drive (thank you!) and my old external hard drive (in a shiny new case), in conjuction with my prehistoric 26-28.8 Kbps dial-up internet connection to make all of this possible.

I hope everyone had a happy holiday and is enjoying their new year. I am looking forward to all of the submissions that I hope will come in this weekend.

There are changes in the works for the structure of the archive, and I will keep you guys up to date as I impliment them. I am still looking for users familiar with eFiction who would like to volunteer to help out. In the last two months, there have been zero volunteers.

Oh hell (Computer Issues)

I am in desperate need of a new external hard drive and have been bemoaning that fact, because my other two are getting full.

One of them has four partitions - 1 with my games and SIMS files, 1 with all of my 3000+ mp3s, 1 with all of my graphics and media files, and 1 with all of my personal and website stuff, including Heliopolis and some commissioned work that I need to update. It refuses to turn on. I am so completely and totally screwed. It is kind of my back-up, but also all of my work is on it. I am hoping that it is as simple as needing a new AC adapter, but it was working before I left the house this morning, and the plug looks fine. I need these files, and desperately need access to this hard drive. I cannot lose it - I just can't.

I can't afford a new hard drive right now, and only have 4 more days that I can come to the college to download things to try and replace a small portion of my files. I am completely panicked. All of that work is gone ... months and months of work, in the case of Helio - all of my working files and databases.

I could really use a holiday miracle.

Help Wanted

I am working on the old archive this week, and converting it to an eFiction interface. It is more customizable, and will allow you to edit/delete your own stories, and post multi-chapter stories or series together. I'd like some help uploading stories, if you are familiar with the script and how it works, and have the extra time to spare.

This is a test, and if it is successful, and doesn't overstrain our bandwidth (it shouldn't), I will be changing all of the archives over to this format. It should deal with many of the concerns and suggestions that I have seen. I think it's a long overdue update to the archives.

Please e-mail me, if you can help.

Ooops!

When I put the upload form back up, I forgot to update the news. Luckily, some of you figured out, so there are new stories for the interim. For those who missed it - feel free to upload now.

Current Updates and Corrections

The problem with the old archive that was resulting in blank pages has been fixed. The quicksearch pages for the 1998-2004 should now be visisble. However, while I have fixed some of the bugs, not all of the links and stories are completely matched up still. This is a long-term project a the moment.

Submissions for Heliopolis, Helio2 and Helio: Atlantis are now back on-line. Feel free to upload your stories at your convenience.

Move Complete

The server move is now complete - mostly, anyway. It will take me a few more days to finish uploading the old archive, since I only have dial-up, but each of the three main archives should be up and working now. Submissions will also be reopened in a few days, after I do a last sweep for bugs and change a few links.

I know many of you have expressed concerns about the SG1 Awards. I am a member of the awards team and they are aware of my situation. They agreed to wait until after the 16th of July, the date I gave them for completion, before moving to the next stage of the awards. I am ready for that. Also, the server changed, but that is just the machine/computer that the site is hosted on. The addresses of the site/stories haven't changed (http://sg1-heliopolis.com), and will still be available for the awards.

I do have some issues to address with the site. The database for the old archive is completely corrupted and only leads to the correct story about 60% of the time, it seems. Too much of what is being archived at Heliopolis is being incorrectly labeled as gen, when it is 'ship. The current structure of the submissions links are confusing and the FAQ needs to be updated.

I have all of these planned, as well as some cosmetic fixes, and some additions to the site. The good news is that I will probably have plenty of time to impliment them. I just found out that I am pregnant. This is a high-risk pregnancy, so at some point I will probably end up on bed rest - just me and my laptop. :) I'm hoping for the best - but if I disappear for a few weeks down the line, that may be why.
ETA 07 Sept 06: Thank you for your well-wishes on the pregnancy, however, I have once again miscarried.

However, more good news, the site is fully paid for one year of hosting at what seems to be a reliable company. I have lots of bandwidth - and the new series of SG-1 and SGA start tomorrow with plenty of inspiration for new fic !!!!

Current Situation

Heliopolis is back on-line, though parts of it are barely functional at best (ftp, e-mail) and others are currently unavailable (search, upload).

Here is the current situation:
I received a message from my hosting company today that the Helio account had been suspended because the search script in use at Helio is "spiking the server". At this point, I have offered to remove the script, but that is a stop-gap measure at best. What they want me to do is move to a dedicated server, for at least triple the current cost. I don't think that's feasible. (I have been with them for 14 months, but they have recently reorganized their site and raised prices across the board. My current plan doesn't even exist anymore, and I have to think that is at least part of the reason behind their actions.)

I am once again thinking of switching hosts. I think I have found a place, and it will even be cheaper in the long-run, but I will have to prepay for one or two years, or pay a large set-up fee. I am not crazy about prepaying after the fiasco last time I did that with a hosting company (where they canceled my account after 1 month and kept the money). I also do not know if the new host may also have the same problems with the site, but the account that I am considering, recomended to me by other fans, will have even more bandwith than I am currently using, so perhaps they will have more server resources available. I think I am going to take the leap and do that, and hope that it works out better than my last effort. It really is much cheaper in the long run, and I think that I can make changes to keep the site stable for at least that long. I have chosen a package with a larger bandwidth allowance and options similiar to those that I currently enjoy.

As usual, I can't make this move without help. I have some of the money required for the payment, but need about $300 more to prepay the account for the year. If I receive enough to do that, I will. If not, I will pay the set-up fee and the slightly larger month-by-month fee.

If you enjoy the site, and are able to donate, and wish to, I can still accept paypal donations, or you can e-mail me at rachel-c [at] sbcglobal [dot] net for my snail mail address.

This site is up as a temporary measure, but it is my intention to have it up and intact by Sunday, 16, July, 2006. Expect some down-time along the way.

Submissions back on-line and FAQ's

All back-logged changes (except a few to the old 1989-2004 archive) are now completed. If something isn't done, please e-mail me with the details.

A few issues that I encounter repeatedly during updates (FAQ's):

A story without a title/link occurs when neither a file nor a link were uploaded for a story, and as such, does not really exist in the archive. For off-site stories, I can add the link, if it is provided for me. For stories that were supposed to be archived, I delete the false entry, and allow you to upload them.

Do not upload multiple instances of a story, when there is a problem. You run the risk of having them ALL deleted when I am trying to fix the problem, and then you will only have to reload it again, anyway.

It is difficult for me to make changes to the archive, or delete files, if I don't have the title of the story, and the author, at least. For best and quickest results, copy the entire entry from the search pages and include it in your e-mail. If I don't have enough information to act on your request, I have to write you back and ask for it, and then can't make your changes until the NEXT update. Help us both out.

ADMIN: Heliopolis Hacked - Take 2

Heliopolis was hacked, again. I have once again removed and/or corrected the affected files. Everything should be working, now. I once again lost all stories since the last update. I will work on backing up more often, and for now, it is up to the authors to resubmit those stories that were removed.

I also changed permissions on many of the files and folders, which should prevent the large scale problem from reoccurring. Unfortunately, this virus/trojan is preying on some of the vulnerabilities of the script that we use to allow you guys to archive your own stories. I will add (once again) looking for an alternative to the list of projects for the new year.

Thanks for your patience, and to all of you who promptly informed me of the problem. I apologise for the inconvenience.

ADMIN: Heliopolis Hacked

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. Yesterday was not so fun around here. My husband lost his job, and then I came home to find that Heliopolis had been hacked. There was a trojan on the site and large amounts of files had been overwritten. I was able to fix most of the problems with the site, but any stories that were uploaded between 10 Nov 05 and 23 Nov 05, had to be deleted, because I didn't have back-ups of them, and all of the story files had been truncated.

None of the pop-ups, links to other sites, etc were meant to be on this site, this includes the warez link that showed up in the news section. Whoever hacked this site, changed everything, and it took me hours to find all of the files that were affected. I am still working on uploading the corrected files to the main archive.

I advise everyone who has visited this site this week (since Sunday, 20 Nov 05) to run a virus scan on your computer, on the chance that you may have downloaded this trojan. I wouldn't want anyone to be affected by this.

For this holiday, I wanted to let everyone know that despite the roller coaster my life has seemed to been on since August, I am quite thankful for many things in my life, not the least of which are all of you who have kept me in your thoughts and prayers and those who have offerred their support. More than once, the fans of this site have made my day brighter. My husband and I wish all of you a wonderful Thanksgiving, whether you are in America or overseas, and let you know that despite the problems with this site, we will be here for all of you for as long as you remain fans.

Site Maintenance Update

Hi, guys. I am sorry that I have been MIA lately. First the things with my husband, and then I got sick. On Wednesday, I found out that my mother died and I will probably have to go to Oklahoma sometime in the next week for the funeral.

However, I am working on things. I will get as much as possible done this weekend, at the very least, enough to bring the submissions back on-line, so that you guys aren't left hanging without new fic to read any longer.

I will be on-line all day Saturday, 29 October 2005, for anyone who needs to contact me for any reason. I'd appreciate knowing about any changes, bugs, etc. as soon as possible.

Also, pretty soon all of the Helio e-mail addresses will be going bye-bye to be replaced with on-line contact forms. This will save me some time (in that I won't have to write back, requesting relevant information and waiting for a reply), and also, is my only way to deal with the proliferation of spam I am sufferring (only 6 of this mornings 90+ messages on the main account were actual correspondance).

September Updates and plans

I have begun using the helioupdate yahoo!group to post messages about the archive and ask for suggestions. It is announcement only, and low-volume, so feel free to join, if you are interested.

Last weekend, I did some revisions and caught up on most of the archive changes, which is a good thing, as last night I ended up having to reformat my laptop. While most of the information was backed up, I lost a lot of my work files, my mail for the last 4 1/2 months and my address book.

As for changes on the horizon, we are about to enter the hiatus. This is typically when I update the archive and search engines to reflect new canon. For example, I will add all of the episodes to date. There have been a lot of new characters this year - on both shows. I would like to hear from you guys as to which pairings/characters need to be added, as I haven't kept up with the fic lately. If I have questions, I'll put up a poll or two...

I also have some changes to make to the site, such as fixing some of the submission problems, and putting up some forms, so I stop getting slammed with so much spam, and updating the submission guidelines.... I'm going to be a busy girl.

----------------------------------------

For those who have asked... my husband is still home, but has not yet returned to work (which is another reason that I have been scarce). He has another doctor's appointment next Monday, and we anticipate that it will be at least two weeks after that. He is doing better, though ( a little). Thank you for all of the e-mails and support that you have sent to us. I have loved hearing from all of you who have taken the time to share your thoughts, prayers and stories. I am sorry that I missed responding to a few of you, and now no longer have your e-mails or information. Please forgive me.

1998-2004 Archive Working

The old archive is operational, including a search engine. I hope that this added feature will not overwhelm the bandwidth, and I have several changes planned over the next few months, to help streamline the archives. There are just over 400 stories left to add, once I verify the info, and some links that need to be checked and added.

The sequel links have been removed, where I could, because they no longer work. I will be reinstituting them in the future. In the meantime, just search for the stories list using either quicksearch or advanced search.

I also want to thank everyone who contacted me. My husband came home Monday afternnon, and I am very happy to have him here.

The e-mail/author contact function has been fixed on all of the archives.

My husband was admitted to the hospital today (Tuesday), so I may not be around much the next few days. I am going to see if a neighbor can drive me to town tommorrow to visit him.

I am almost done with the old archive (only S and T are left to finish), so it should be on-line by the weekend, even with the distraction. There are a few broken links, but we are going through and correcting them as we can.

Thank you to everyone who has contacted me offerring support and prayers. I appreciate it.

I hate to do this, but I don't know what else to do at this point. I really need help, and have nowhere to turn. If anyone can help, even a small amount, I would really appreciate it.

I know I've been quiet, but i am actually hard at work. I have stories A-L, U-Z, 0-9, and many off-site links loaded and on-line. ReeAnn and Arnise are helping me along the way as I debug. It should be fully functional in the next few days. The sequal links will not work, currently, but when I finsh this part of the upgrade, I will explain my further plans for streamlining the archive.

I am aware of the problem with the skins on Helio2 and helio:Atlantis, I am looking for a solution. I also appreciate all of the bug reports that have been mailed to me. they often help me to find things that I may have overlooked, or was not aware of. Keep them coming, and I will keep fixing them.

Server Move : Update

Today's my 30th birthday, and I'm in a good mood. Another reason is because the move seems to be progressing nicely. I am about half-way through processing all of the files with the new look, and have already installed a few changes to the overall function of the site. I even found someone with a cable modem willing to upload the files much more quickly than I can on my old 28.8k connection. I am loathe to give an exact date for the re-launching, as the unexpected can always happen - but this version of the site will remain available right up until the switch. I am very enthusiastic about this.

Submissions will close sometime on Friday, 27 May 2005, for maintenance and the move to the new server. I don't know how long it will take, for everything to be complete, but I am hoping for not much more than a week. You should be able to read all of the stories while I switch over, but that is sibject to change. There are a lot of changes in the works, and most of the current links and bookmarks will not work when I am done. When everything is complete, you can find Heliopolis at http://sg1-heliopolis.com.

Thank You

I want to thank everyone who has come out this past week and showed their support, whether through donation, or e-mail. You guys are wonderful. There won't be any major changes to the archive for the next little bit. I am preparing it for the move. I have found a new host, and I hope to move the site in the next couple of weeks (probably between May 15-31). Keep an eye out for that announcement and bear with me while I get everything up and running on the new server.

Donation Drive

Heliopolis is due up for renewal at the end of the month, and at the same time I would like to move it to a new server / host. I've had a good relationship with my current host for the last 2 years, but am hoping to gain some additional functionality/flexibility beyond what is currently available to me.

I still hope/plan to make the entire archive searchable, as well as add new content and features. That is a real possibility with the move. However, it will take a large amount of space and bandwidth to cover this archive and these features.

That is why I am asking for donations at this time. Currently, I receive one or two donations each month, and while they are greatly appreciated, they are not enough to make this change possible. Two years ago, many of you stepped forward and helped keep Heliopolis alive, and now I am hoping that you will again come forward to help it grow.

Any amount would be appreciated. If you can't afford to donate, I understand. I still appreciate all of the support that I have received from the community for the last two years. That is what keeps me working at this, and enjoying it.

Thank you.

Helio2 Search Engine Bug

I have changed the links to the scripts from these pages. There was a bug, if you accessed the site by the sub-domain addy http://helio2.sg1-heliopolis.com/ the search was redirected to Heliopolis. I hard-coded the links to http://sg1-heliopolis.com/helio2/ to correct this.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas (or insert your holiday here...) everyone. I have received a lot of requests to return the challenge pages to Heliopolis. They were a lot of work to maintain, so I came up with a compromise.

I started a livejournal community for Helio challenges. In it, I have posted 2005 challenges for all of you. Feel free to browse the challenges, add your own, or write responses to them. If you choose to answer a challenge, you cann add the URL of your story as a comment to the appropriate entry.

I hope that you all enjoy. Heliopolis Stargate SG-1 Challenges

Oops!

Ok, when I did all of my updates last week, I left behind a few bugs. I think that I have found and corrected them all: 1) The links in the old archive now all read "http" instead of "hhttp" 2) The Internal Server Error when accessing the search or upload features of the archives has been corrected. (It's amazing the damage that an apostrophe can do.) Thank you to everyone who contacted me in the interim about these problems.

Also, thank you to everyone who commented and e-mailed me about the adoption. You guys are great. Unfortunately, it fell through. We won't be getting them after all. Hopefully, we will find new blessings in the new year.

Updates Completed

All pending changes and deletions have been completed. If you have any questions or problems, please contact me. Thank you for your support and patience.

A few new FAQ's are in the works re: the upload form and contacting me. As a quick note - anytime you contact me about an upload problem or deletion, please include which archive you are talking about (Helio-old, Helio-new, Helio2, or Helio:Atlantis) and your story info or listing. It makes things much easier for both of us.

Updates Pending

Sorry that I have been so quiet lately. Things have gotten a bit crazy here. My husband and I are in the process of adopting a baby, and we just found out that "the baby" we are expecting is triplets!!! We are thrilled, but it's one thing to prepare for a baby, another to suddenly expect three. On top of that, we suddenly have to replace our car :: groans ::

However, I am going to be spending this weekend doing updates and changes here at Heliopolis. I plan on having all pending changes completed by Sunday evening. If you have something you need that you haven't contacted me about, this would be the time to do it.

Also, I want to wish everyone a happy holiday season.

Heliopolis Maintenance

There was a bug over the weekend in the upload form because I accidently changed a variable and didn't realize it. It trying to find it, the quicksearch page and the indexes for the old archive were overwritten. All of these have since been corrected.

The upload interface no longer turns everything into one large lump.

The search by date on the new archive works again.

The indexes for the old archive have been re-uploaded.

Thank you for your patience.

Welcome to Helio : Atlantis

Stargate - Atlantis is still a new show, but already there has been a good response from the fandom. In order to be supportive of that and provide a central location for those who are looking for fan fiction for that show, I have opened this archive. I hope that you will enjoy it and support us and this new show.

New at Heliopolis

Wow, you guys have been busy. In the first three days after I re-opened submissions over 100 stories were submitted via the upload interface and e-mail.

I have been busy, too. There is a new section to Heliopolis for you to explore. For those of you following Stargate:Atlantis, I have opened a new archive for that show. I don't know how much response there will be for a while, as the show is just beginning, but I hope it will grow as time goes on.

Helio : Atlantis accepts both gen and adult submissions, but not slash. For more information, visit the site.

New and old Archive

Apparently, there is some confusion as to what is going on with the new and old archives. I thought I would take the time to try and clear that up.

The system currently employed by heliopolis is the same that it has been for the last two years. New submissions are submitted using the AutoArchive submission interface. This produces a search engine and a quicksearch page, so that you can access stories published in the last week, two weeks, month, etc.

The old archive is all stories previously archived before a certain cut-off date. This was August 2002. Now it is 24 July 04. Stories posted before today will be in the old archive. Stories after will be in the new. After several months, I will update both archives, moving access to stories from the new archive to the old.

Both archives will continue to be open to the public. However, you will have to use a menu rather than a search engine to find stories more than 3-4 months old. Please explore the menu at the above right for more details.

Submissions Re-opened

Hope I haven't scared you all by being quiet these last few weeks, but I have been very busy. As the headline states, I have reopened submissions, so there should be plenty of new stories soon, for those of you who have been missing your fix.

I am still working with the old archive, and its begun to take shape the way I wanted it to, though without the search engine that I envisioned for the better part of the last year. However, it is now in a format that makes it much easier for me to manage and make changes to.

In order to prevent us from getting back into the same bind with the database/search engine as before, I am implimenting a new way to manage the archive. Three to four times a year, I am going to move all of the new submissions to the static archive. They will no longer be searchable at that point, but it will allow me to keep up the search engine and pages of new stories by week and month that are the most requested.

I hope that you enjoy the archive and thank you for your patience.

Archive Down - Helio Plans
Those of you who have been eagerly following the database update, may have noticed that the site/server has been completely off-line for the past few days. We overloaded the precessor for the server and our host shut us down. It seems that there is just not a viable option for implementing a search engine on an archive this large. (We have almost 9,000 stories and hundreds of viewers each day.) I know this is disappointing for you, as it is for me. I have been working on this for the past seven months.

I do however have a plan for the future of the archive. All current stories will be moved to a static html section (like the previous "old archive," but with a few more options). Submissions will be reopened with the new stories option intact (like the previous "new archive"). After a period of time (3-6 months) stories will be moved from the new to the old.

This seems to be the best way to keep the archive up and alive and provide you with the options that have been most frequently requested, other than full search capabilities.

Stories by Title
I have recieved a few e-mails today, asking about the ability to search by title. I am looking into a solution for this. I should have some news in a few days.

New Archive Database
It took me just abit longer than I anticipated due to a problem with the format of a bunch of URLs, but I have finished uploading the information to the database. That means you can now search the archive again, and both the new and old archives are in one place.
I am sorry for those of you who are craving new stories, as submissions will remain closed until 01 July 04.
I need that extra month to work out all of the bugs that are left, and correct errors. I know that there are still quite a few. I will be putting up some forms for reporting errors, in the next few days, so that you guys can help out with this process.
However, you guys can play around with the new interface in the meantime. I hope that you enjoy it.

Almost There
For those who have been keeping track of such things, I said that I would try to be finished by my birthday with the new database. Well, my birthday is Monday - Memorial Day, and it looks like I am on track.
I have the scripts installed, the database established and about two-thirds of the stories entered into it. I am and have been working on sorting out all of the various series that are part of the archive. So keep an eye out over the holiday weekend for the unveiling.

Update Status
Just a quick update, for those of you who are following such things: I have completed a good portion of the database tables, including the author's info, and completed the formatting for just over 6,000 (apr 2/3 of the archive) of the stories. I am now about to start work on the scripts and structure for the site. Much of this has been pre-written by the lovely Patrimas of Area 52. I just have to make whatever adjustments that I need for Helio. So, things are coming along quickly. I hope to have everything up and running before my birthday at the end of the month. Wish me luck.

Helio2 Problems
Some of you may have trouble accessing Helio2. It is a sub-domain issue. Helio2 can also be reached at http://sg1-heliopolis.com/helio2/ for now. I will check with the system administrator.

New Stories Page / Advances Search
THERE ARE NO NEW STORIES! Submissions have been closed since the 1st of April. The search engine isn't on-line, and even if it was, it could not handle the combined database which is currently an almost 5MB text file. (There are currently 9097 stories on Heliopolis.)
This is why I am working on setting up the new database.
I plan to reimplement both of these features as soon as the new database is on-line. I don't know for sure when this will be, but it will be as soon as possible.
Lyssa : 25 April 04
Uploading Fic
I am uploading all of the stories to new directories, and changing the style of them to be more uniform. Bear with me for a few days, if there are any broken links. I actually have a very slow internet connection.

Updates Progress
All requested removals and deletions have been made from the archive. The old and the new archives have been combined. Submissions are still closed, while I work on setting up the new database. Check out the links to the side to work through this temporary archive.
